The memorial plaque is to the Scottish theologian and King’s College professor Henry Scougal, author of the highly influential Christian treatise, The Life of God in the Soul of Man (1677).

The inscription on the plaque, which is inscribed in Latin, reads:

“A man of God, dedicated to the Church. Professor of Philosophy at the age of nineteen, and Professor of Divinity at twenty-four. He died of consumption on June 13, 1678, at the age of 28, and here laid down the spoils or robes of his mortality.”
