… The auld stone Kirk by the sea?

Have you heard that he sits there, on a little hill, right by where the sea would rear up and devour the land whole, given half a mischance.

He sits there, on that craggy hill, unmoving, above the pebble strewn shore like the tallest of trees with the deepest of roots, as if carved from the sea rock itself.

Aye, for a thousand years and twelve score more, they say.
There he has sat.
The auld stone Kirk. By the sea.

Even as the tides of doubt tested his faith.

Even as the waves of malice broke against him, again, and again, and again.

Even as the storms of malevolence, of deceit, of evil, sought to reduce him to rubble, to dust, and cast him down, down, down into the devil’s own abyss.

There he sits still.
On that rocky little hill.
Above it all.

Steadfast.

Resolute.

Undaunted.

He sits there with her.

With God.

The auld stone Kirk by the sea.

Have you heard?
