The day will yet come

The day will yet come

The day will yet come when we will build monuments such as these, no more.

No more monuments dedicated to the dead, to the sacrificed, to the wars of man.

If we but listen to her.
If we but heed her word.
That day will come sooner, rather than later.

And on that day we will be closer to her.
Closer to God.
Closer to the glory of her truth.
Of her wisdom.

And war will become but a bad memory.
A forgotten nightmare.
That haunts our fears no more.

No more war.
No more troubles.

STOODLEY PIKE, Mankinholes, West Yorkshire, England, U.K. ~ 13 August 2022.

Inscription on the stonework above the entrance reads:

A peace monument.

Erected by public subscription.
Commenced in 1814 to commemorate the surrender of Paris to the Allies and finished after the battle of Waterloo when peace was established in 1815.
By a strange coincidence the pike fell on the day the Russian ambassador left London before the declaration of war with Russia in 1854.
Was rebuilt when peace was restored in 1856.
Repaired and lightning conductor fixed 1889.
